Client wanted to keep the feel of her original website, but update content, streamline site structure, and make the design a bit more unique, eliminating stock photos and creating some graphics. The homepage hero image was a local lighthouse, and the client wanted to keep that and build upon the water theme, while tying it into the concept of building, strength, and force. However, that same hero image was used on each page, and she wanted more variety and impact.
I used images for the different cities that her company services with a water view as the hero image on each page. I then presented three ideas for icons to replace the stock photos that represented the services she provides: one based on the idea of blueprints for “building,” one of different nautical knots to play on water and strength, and one set of extremely simple representative icons. For the second two ideas, I used a diamond shape to mirror the shape of her logo. We went with the simple.
